The purpose of the Social Justice Group is to raise awareness amongst our parishioners of social justice issues and to support specific projects in a practical way by fundraising to satisfy particular needs. The gathering provides a space for people from across our parish to come together to share their work for justice and social issues
We support:
- the group Seeds of Affinity which supports both women in gaol and women released from gaol. As well as the information, the Parish is very generous in donating various personal items, shampoo, body wash and so on; these personal items are then given to each woman when she enters gaol.
the Migrant and Refugee Centre have as its purpose the provision of support and assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in a way that maintains dignity and self-reliance. We collect donations of men’s toiletries, such as body wash, shaving cream, razors, deodorants etc.
- the Birthing Kits. On the first Sunday of March, close to the International Women's Day parishioners donated funds which funded the supply of simple kits for mothers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The kits are very simple, a piece of plastic, gloves, gauze, cord ties, soap and a sterile blade; such simple items make childbirth much safer for women and their babies.
